8 museums from Switzerland and the USA, 20 prototypes, 24 months: that is the ambitious goal of Project AMI Art + Museums Interacting which was initiated by the Max Kohler Foundation and FableVision for and with Swiss and US museums. FableVision is a game design studio specialising in educational content, founded by world-renowned children's book author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds (The Dot).
Museums will build several play-based prototypes in 30-day sprints each together with Kellian Adams Pletcher. The goal is to learn and internalize the process of experimentation, testing and iteration on many low-stake projects as a methodology for building larger successful museum outreach programs.
Our AMI partner museums 2023 + 2024
Aargauer Kunsthaus, Creaviva - Zentrum Paul Klee, Fondation Beyeler, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Landesmuseum Zürich, MoMA New York, Museum Rietberg, und das MoMA San Francisco
The prototypes are discussed with peers and interested members of the public at on-site PlayTest events in order to obtain valuable feedback.
The final deliverable will be over 20 museum-approved playable prototypes that can be used and further developed by other museums, as well as a growing international community in motion. In 2025, we will test which elements of AMI were particularly successful and develop them further together with our AMI partners.
AMI is for the museum community beyond our current partners.
The game Grabbit developed by the Museum Rietberg, for example, is currently being used with other games in the exhibition Ragamala - Pictures for All Senses and will soon be adapted in the SFMoMA in the exhibition Get in the Game: Sports, Arts, Culture as well as in other US museums with new content.
